NRA to UN: don’t regulate US arms ownership

UNITED NATIONS—The National Rifle Association on Friday declared its opposition to any attempt by U.N. member states to prohibit or regulate U.S. civilian ownership of firearms as they draft a treaty regulating the multibillion-dollar global arms trade.

The influential U.S. gun owners’ lobbying group said in a statement on its legislative action website that its executive vice president Wayne LaPierre addressed this week’s meeting of countries negotiating a treaty regulating the conventional arms trade, asking that all civilian firearms be removed from the proposal. BATFE sought to downplay guns scandal, emails show

Two days after U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry was killed in December, the top ATF supervisors in Phoenix said in internal emails that weapons found at the scene in Arizona came from a failed agency sting operation.

But nearly two months later, when U.S. Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) inquired about the origin of the guns, senior officials in Washington with the Justice Department and its Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were evasive. Continue reading…

NRA Beats Back Gun Control Measures

Bracing for a wave of expected gun control measures, the National Rifle Association and supporters in Congress pushed back hard this month to derail the initial efforts. At least five antigun efforts were killed for now.

“Though none of these votes settle the respective issues,” said the NRA, “all are setbacks for gun control supporters who have been encouraged by talk of the Obama administration planning to bypass Congress and implement a variety of gun control schemes under the radar.” Continue reading…

U.S. Senate Stands with NRA in Strongly Opposing U.N. Gun Control Efforts

For nearly 20 years, the NRA has worked tirelessly to oppose any United Nations effort to undermine the constitutional rights of law-abiding American gun owners. The latest attempt by the U.N. and global gun banners to eliminate our Second Amendment freedoms is an effort to include civilian arms in its current Arms Trade Treaty, which will be finalized next year.

Governor Perry Signs Important Pro-Gun Measures Into Law

Governor Rick Perry has signed Senate Bill 321 into law! This NRA-backed bill authored by state Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy) and state Representative Tim Kleinschmidt (R-Lexington) prohibits employers from enacting and enforcing bans on employees transporting and storing firearms in their locked, private motor vehicles while parked at work. The act will take effect on September 1, 2011. Click here to view a copy of NRA-ILA’s press release on this topic.

House Bill 25 by state Representative Ryan Guillen (D-Rio Grande City) and state Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston) will extend the right to carry a handgun to your boat or personal watercraft without needing a Concealed Handgun License – a right which law-abiding Texans currently enjoy in their private motor vehicles. For many, these vessels – especially on weekends in some parts of the state – are, for all practical purposes, an extension of one’s home. It will remain an offense under HB 25 if the handgun is not hidden from plain view, the person in possession is engaged in criminal activity or a member of a criminal street gang, or the person is not eligible to possess the firearm under state or federal law. Effective 9/1/11.

UN Arms Treaty

NRA will be in full attendance at the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) “Preparatory Committee” meeting in New York, July 11-15. The so-called “Prep. Com.” will be laying the ground work for a final negotiation session in 2012. NRA’s message will be simple and strong – an ATT which in any way, shape or form affects the constitutional rights of American gun owners is simply unacceptable. Civilian firearms must not be within the scope of an ATT. There will be no compromise on this crucial point. Continue reading from the NRA.

Did Union Bosses Lie To Their Members About Obama’s Gun Control Ambitions?

After Obama’s April 2008 loose-tongue slip about Americans who “cling to guns or religion,” union bosses had to work doubly hard to convince those union members who do, in fact, cling to their guns that Barack Obama wasn’t pro-gun control (despite his record).

Across the country, union bosses fanned out to spread the message: Barack Obama WON’T Take Away Your Gun… Continue reading from Redstate.com.

Federal figures shoot down left’s imaginary gun decline

Gun grabbers love statistics, especially when they’re misleading. The latest report from the Violence Policy Center (VPC) would have us believe that Americans are lined up at the recycling center ready to toss out their Glocks. The group claims that a firearm protected every other home in 1980 but only one out of three today. Continue reading from The Washington Times.
