Texas Grassroots Leaders Demand Immediate Action After Breitbart Border Tour

MCALLEN, Texas—Breitbart Texas invited a team of Texas grassroots leaders to tour the Texas-Mexico border. The tour began on Friday, July 25, 2014 and concluded on Sunday, July 27, 2014.

The purpose of the trip was to highlight holes in border security in the Laredo and Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol. During the trip, Border Patrol agents in the National Border Patrol Council shared their firsthand experiences with the grassroots leaders in hopes of affecting change for the conditions of the men and women in the U.S. Border Patrol who are protecting the specific sectors.

Breitbart Texas Managing Director Brandon Darby, who organized the tour, described the intentions and plans of the group’s effort. “The federal government, the State of Texas, and the media have presented a picture that the increase in security in the Rio Grande Valley sector is somehow representative of an increase in security along all of Texas’ border with Mexico,” Darby said. “The Laredo sector is the next sector over and it is largely wide open. We wanted grassroots leaders to witness for themselves what the reality is and we wanted them to feel what the often solo agents feel out there along the river.” Continue reading here from

Immigration Updates from Cong. Louie Gohmert & Sen. Ted Cruz

U.S. Congressman Louie Gohmert, Proudly Serving the First District of Texas
Until We Stop The Flood, We Will Never Overcome This Border Crisis
By: Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01)

This month I have been down to the Texas-Mexico border three different weekends. My nights patrolling the border, talking in depth with Border Patrol, DPS, Texas Rangers, ICE agents, and people in the area have helped bring a few things into focus for me. Namely – we must secure the border and enforce the law of the land.

Unlike the editorial board at The Longview News Journal, the majority of Americans understand compassion is not encouraging a President to continue luring children to this country through horrific dangers transported by drug cartel employees from countries where crime has not spiked. It actually takes courage to stand up to demeaning name-calling simply because of beliefs in treating everyone impartially.

Make no mistake; most of the children crossing the border are male and teenagers or adults, while the smaller percentage of “unaccompanied” younger children are brought by someone, though they may step aside once here. Let’s reunite them as families and return them home to show the benefit of following the law.

There is a common mistake made by caring Christians in thinking that the duty of a government and the duty of a Christian individual are the same. They are quite different, and the differences are critical.

If a government turns the other cheek, is meek in the face of attack or threat to its citizens’ way of life, then the people in that nation suffer. The government must follow its own laws fairly and impartially so that it does not encourage lawlessness. If all of the children of the world who are not fairly treated were encouraged to flee to the United States, there would be no United States worth fleeing to. The government must protect its borders, just like the walls of Jerusalem were to protect those within.

A Christian should love his neighbor. A government must force his neighbor to comply with its laws. Christians should not put others in fear, but government is different: “If you do evil, be afraid because God does not give the sword to the government in vain.” (Romans 13:4) A good neighbor government would help force an end to the reign of the drug cartels in neighboring countries so people do not feel a desire to flee.

The drug cartels are largely responsible for the transport of people to and across our border illegally. A Border Patrolman told me that most people say, “We are fleeing violent gangs.” However, when he challenges then as a Hispanic in forceful Spanish, “You and I both know the gangs were paid to bring you here; you’re not escaping gangs,” they say, ‘You’re right, but we were told to say that.” Additionally, Border Patrol officers tell me the number of SIA’s (Special Interest Aliens from countries with significant terrorism) has skyrocketed. That is borne out by official numbers.

Marine Corps Gen. John Kelly’s (commander of the United States Southern Command) testified before Congressional committees this year of the dramatic security threats to the United States from criminal networks and terrorist organizations penetrating our southern border, stating that they pose ‘an existential threat to the United States.’ A primary duty of your federal government is to provide for the common defense against such.

As I toured the border in the Rio Grande Valley and met with border officials this past week, one thing remained clear – we must secure the border.

This week I introduced legislation that would stop Obama’s Amnesty, reform existing human trafficking laws, and also give Texas leaders more tools to protect our state.

Please keep reading for a further update on the latest in the Senate.

All the best,

TC Sig
Ted Cruz

ted-cruz-from-below-ap (1)With House Republicans exploring lawmakers’ immigration “wish lists” as they craft a legislative response to the border crisis, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is drawing a line in the sand: unless the bill prevents President Obama from expanding unilateral amnesty for so-called DREAMers, he will oppose it.

“No legislation should be considered unless it specifically prohibits Obama from expanding” the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), “which allows those who have come here illegally to stay,” Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told Breitbart News. “That should be a prerequisite for any bill considered to address this crisis.”
Frazier also told Breitbart News that Cruz is working on a bill on the matter that aims to end DACA altogether.

Cruz’s stand would appear to exclude support for a bill offered by his Texas colleagues Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), the Senate Minority Whip, and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), and House officials crafting the GOP bill in the lower chamber have not discussed any provisions related to reigning in DACA.

Obama Pledges to Take Executive Actions on Immigration Reform

President Obama on Monday said he would take executive actions to move forward with immigration reform after declaring any hopes for legislation dead.

The president blamed House Republicans for the stalemate on immigration, describing GOP leaders as “unwilling to stand up to the Tea Party.”

“If Congress will not do its job, at least we can do ours,” Obama said in comments from the White House Rose Garden.
Obama made the comments after Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told the president last week that the House would not vote on an immigration bill this year.

Boehner has blamed inaction on Obama, who Republicans say is not trusted to enforce immigration laws.

“In our conversation last week, I told the president what I have been telling him for months: the American people and their elected officials don’t trust him to enforce the law as written,” Boehner said in a statement after Obama’s remarks. “Until that changes it is going to be difficult to make progress on this issue.”

The politics on immigration have been further complicated by a surge of young immigrants, many of them children, coming to the United States from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Republicans say the new wave of immigrants are coming because they believe they will be allowed to stay in the United States as a result of Obama’s policies. The administration has acknowledged many incorrectly think they’ll be able to stay, but has also blamed violence for the surge.

“The president’s own executive orders have led directly to the humanitarian crisis along the southern border, giving false hope to children and their families that if they enter the country

illegally they will be allowed to stay,” Boehner said in the statement.

Texas Border Crisis News…

East Texas (Tyler) – In a statewide press release, Grassroots America, one of the largest conservative organizations in Texas, called on Governor Rick Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, Attorney General Greg Abbott, and House Speaker Joe Straus to immediately address rising concerns among Texans that there is no visible sense of business urgency from state leaders to prepare the state and local communities for the effects of unrestricted and increasing illegal border crossings into Texas.

HOUSTON, Texas–Earlier this week Breitbart Texas reported on a confirmed case of the Swine Flu, or H1N1, at a facility for young migrants in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet–an experienced physician and nationally recognized speaker–told Breitbart Texas that the risks from such diseases being brought over the border are being dramatically downplayed. Attorney General Greg Abbott participates in border surge briefing, visits Customs & Border Protection Station

(from Fox News – The Kelly Files).

Petition Background (Preamble):

Due to the recent influx of illegal immigrants crossing our Texas/Mexico border and the lack of border patrol and control, the taxpayers of Texas are demanding that immediate action be taken by our state government to protect our state and citizens.

We are requesting a special legislative session be called immediately by Governor Perry to request the legislature allocate funds to protect our border. Texas taxpayers spent over $12 billion in 2013 for costs associated with illegal immigrants.

The current immense invasion of over 1,000 illegal immigrants per day crossing our borders presents a public safety risk, public health risk and a reprehensible financial strain on the Texas taxpayers.

JoAnn Fleming: Why We Fought To Kill “The Texas Solution”

JoAnn Fleming: Why We Fought to Kill the Texas Solution

On Saturday, a coalition of grassroots conservatives led by TEA party coordinators beat back the so-called “Texas Solution” at the Texas GOP convention held in Fort Worth. The margin of victory was a spread of slightly more than 1,000 votes from a delegation of more than 8,500.

It didn’t take long for some on the right to join the liberal left in hurling the entirely predictable insults – calling us racists, chronic naysayers, and destroyers of the Republican Party. Read more…

The Texas Solution Guest Worker/Amnesty Plan

This info is being forwarded from:

Fellow Grassroots Texans:

In the interest of keeping everyone up-to-speed on the latest back-and-forth over the new guest worker / amnesty plans being pushed in Congress and at the Texas Republican Convention, we have prepared the following digest, incorporating some perspectives from those opposing and those supporting new guest worker / amnesty plans of the type embodied in the so-called ‘Texas Solution.’

This digest is posted online here:

A word on ‘amnesty’: proponents of The Texas Solution argue their legalization plan is not an ‘amnesty’ for one reason or another. The Texas Solution would forget immigration violations and provide legal resident and legal worker status to aliens who came to this country illegally. Many–perhaps most–consider that to be ‘amnesty.’

Steve Toth: Say No to the Texas Solution

If the Texas Legislature under the current leadership of Joe Straus continues to turn its back on the situation, then the GOP will continue to pay the price for his failed leadership. Speak with anyone on the border – (Democrat or Republican) – and they will demand that Texas step up now and act. Texas is run by leaders elected under the Republican banner. This is happening on our watch and we’ll be blamed for failure to act. Keeping Texas Red and keeping Texas secure go hand in hand when it comes to boldly and swiftly securing our border. The delegates at the 2014 Texas GOP convention should work to keep Texas safe and strong by prioritizing and securing Texas borders first and then, and only then, working towards a guest worker program.

Northeast Tarrant Tea Party : Fighting the Texas Amnesty Solution

Conservatives statewide are being called upon to help fight against a plank pushing for amnesty in the TX GOP platform. The plank outlines several good ideas, and then throws in a few dangerous ones. Here’s what the Texas Amnesty Solution asks for…

Grassroots Texans: How the ‘Texas Solution’ Facilitates Amnesty

As you may know, Norm Adams’ guest worker / amnesty plan is called ‘The Texas Solution’–and it may very well be the solution to their problems. If the advocates of amnesty succeed in passing their ‘Texas Solution’ at the Texas Republican Convention, they will very likely be giving themselves all the ammunition they need to pressure the congressional Republicans to pass amnesty into federal law. If they don’t succeed, it would serve as a clear message that the Texas Republicans are not interested in talking about amnesty or more foreign workers at this point in time.

Phyllis Schlafly: The Guest Worker Racket

Tom Donohue, U.S. Chamber of Commerce president, just hurled a challenge to Republicans. If they don’t pass amnesty for illegal aliens, they “shouldn’t bother to run a candidate in 2016.”

Somebody probably told him that outrageous statement was a gaffe, which means the inconvenient revelation of an embarrassing viewpoint, so Donohue tried to pass off his threat as a joke. But it isn’t funny: Donohue’s big-business members want us to import more low-paid workers, and they want them now, suggesting that this fall’s lame duck session of Congress would be a good time to implement this racket.

And it is a racket. It’s a carefully planned, well-financed scheme to use false arguments to import foreign workers who will keep wages depressed for American college graduates.

Ted Cruz Blasts GOP Immigration Plan as ‘Amnesty’

Cruz said the immigration focus should be on border security and streamlining legal immigration. He mentioned another proposal he supported to increase visas for high-skilled workers.

“In my view we need to secure the borders, we need to stop illegal immigration,” he said. “And we need to improve and streamline legal immigration.”

The freshman senator opposed the comprehensive immigration package passed last year in the Senate, which would have created a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

Dale Huls: The Texas Solution is a False Hope

One cannot look at the either the 2012 Texas Solution or the Staples-backed 2014 update in a piece-part fashion. The entire plank is a fraud in that it does not offer any border security or immigration reform solutions to the perceived problem. The premise of this being a “solution” is simply misrepresentation. The one point that everyone agrees upon is border security. Yet, border security is addressed as a worthless platitude with no real direction or substance behind it. It is not specifically directed at the Federal or State level. This is the same as every Republican politician and candidate claiming he or she is “conservative” to the point where the word has actually lost its value as a descriptor.

Dale Huls: The Texas Two-Step Regarding the Texas Solution

[I]f you believe that the 2014 immigration plank is a continuation of moderate Republican policies that seek to appease progressives and big business, then you must join in the effort to rebuke this approach and provide a real Texas solution. If you believe that Texas border security must be the first step in solving the overall illegal immigration issue, then it is up to you to see that this is the lynchpin of any RPT Platform plank addressing this issue. Rather than offering platitudes regarding border security we should be offering real solutions for securing our border.

The Texas Solution Website

We did not elect our Congressmen to avoid controversial issues. We elected them to make thoughtful decisions and to lead on the tough ones! Continuing to avoid immigration reform while we bicker about how to secure the border does nothing to find out who is in our house!

Jerry Patterson: Q&A on The Texas Solution

In June 2012, at the Republican Party of Texas Convention in Fort Worth, Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson was the only Republican elected official to speak to the Platform Committee and to the approximately 8,000 member delegation in favor of adopting the “Texas Solution” immigration plank in our Texas Republican Party Platform. During the floor debate, several key votes were taken on the Texas Solution. By their votes, Convention delegates voted overwhelmingly to support the Texas Solution. Commissioner Patterson is still supporting the Texas Solution and has submitted the following Q&A in hopes of keeping it in the 2014 RPT platform.

Norm Adams on the Texas Solution

It is time for a solution. That is exactly what 10,000 delegates in 2012 decided. It’s time to quit kicking the can down the road. Let’s have a solution. Our 2010 platform was nothing but a litany of problems, real problems, but there was no solution offered. So in our 2012 platform and hopefully again in our 2014 platform we will have an improved version of the Texas Solution. But we will have a guest worker program. We will have a solution that we can say, “Hey Congress, hey Texas delegation, follow Texas.” Follow Texas – help us keep Texas red! God bless you – thank you for being here.

Lindsey Graham: Growth of Party Requires Immigration Reform

“If it fails and we are blamed for its failure, our party is in trouble with Hispanics, not because we are conservative, but because of the rhetoric and the way we handled this issue,” Graham said. “I want to get reattached to the Hispanic community, to sell conservatism, pass comprehensive immigration reform and grow this party. The party has got to be bigger than Utah and South Carolina. The Hispanic community is close to our values but we have driven them away over this issue.”

Grover Norquist: Immigration Plan a ‘No Brainer’

Right now, the Republican House of Representatives is at loggerheads with the Democrat-controlled Senate and the Obama White House over the question of tax hikes and/or spending restraint. There is one piece of legislation now before Congress that would dramatically reduce the deficit over the next decade. That bill has widespread and bipartisan support from Tea Party leaders like Senator Rand Paul (Republican, Kentucky) and Marco Rubio (Republican, Florida) as well as the US Chamber of Commerce, the AFL-CIO labor federation, and the American Farm Bureau. That deficit-reducing legislation is S744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013.

Jeb Bush’s Compassionate Message on Immigration:

Jeb Bush is ushering in the return of the compassionate conservative. Addressing an event where his father, former President George H.W. Bush, was being honored, Jeb said that immigrants who come to this country illegally do so as an “act of love” to put food on the table for their families.

Specifically, the former Florida Governor said: “They came to our country because their families — the dad who loved their children was worried that their children didn’t have food on the table. And they wanted to make sure their family was intact, and they crossed the border because they had no other means to work to be able to provide for their family. Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It is an act of love.”

GOP Leadership Plotting to Pass Amnesty in August

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), the House GOP Conference Chair, said that amnesty legislation could come to the floor by August.

Her comments come after multiple House Republicans have ramped up support for amnesty legislation and discussed bills they plan to introduce in the coming months.

“I believe there is a path that we get a bill on the floor by August,” McMorris Rodgers said, according to the Spokesman-Review. “We’re going to have to push that this is a legal status, not amnesty,” she said.

According to NBC 5, Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) “will soon introduce a bill that will establish a path to citizenship for the minor children of illegal immigrants and a guest worker program.”

“If the only illegal act they committed was coming into the country without proper documentation we’d put them on a path to legalization,” Barton said.

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) said the Republican leadership is “as close as we have ever been” and, though “it is still a big, big, heavy lift… I think we’re going to get there.”

“I think we finally have the policy right,” Diaz-Balart told Roll Call. “And what we’re finding is more and more people out there as they’re seeing it, different aspects of the policy, are starting to say, ‘Hey, that is something that makes sense.’” Continue reading from Breitbart…

New Massive Wave of Illegal Immigration Coming…

For USA Today, Alan Gomez wrote this week that “there is growing consensus that changes in the economies of Latin America and the U.S. are creating the perfect climate for another wave of undocumented immigrants racing north.”

Gomez cites a recent report from the Inter-American Development Bank that concludes Latin American nations would suffer dramatically due to a slowdown in China’s economy, raising commodities prices worldwide.

“The slow-but-steady economic recovery in the USA could also hurt Latin American economies because of rising interest rates and the U.S. Federal Reserve slowing its bond purchases in the region,” Gomez wrote. “Add an improved outlook in U.S. sectors that tend to lure low-skilled immigrants, like construction and retail, and the conditions are ideal for unemployed Latin Americans trying to find work in America.”

He quotes Migration Policy Institute president Demetrios Papademetriou to back up his theory. “There will be more pressure for immigrants – both legal and illegal – to come to the United States,” Papademetriou said.

Gomez argues that passing the Senate Gang of Eight bill or a package of House bills like it, however, could stop the coming expected wave of illegal immigration. “House Republican leaders like Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, keep saying that immigration changes are a priority that must get done this year,” Gomez wrote. “But as the midterm elections approach, time is running out. If Congress fails, the only certainty remaining will be that we’re on the verge of another wave of illegal immigration.”

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that the Gang of Eight bill would cut illegal immigration by only 50 percent.

Illegal Immigration on the Rise Again

According to a new report from the Pew Hispanic Center, the illegal-alien population may be back on the rise. The Center had reported that the illegal-alien population in the United States had dropped slightly since the recession that started back in 2009. But new data show that the population is back on the rise with nearly 12 million illegal aliens living in the U.S.

The illegal-alien population peaked in 2007, according to Pew, with 12.2 million illegal aliens calling the U.S. home. That was after a steady increase in the illegal-alien population dating back to 1990. But the population dipped to 11.2 million in 2009 – the height of the jobs recession. While it’s mostly remained constant for the next few years, the new Pew estimate sets the population at 11.7 million in 2012.
