National debt to be higher than White House forecast, CBO says

President Obama’s proposed budget would add more than $9.7 trillion to the national debt over the next decade, congressional budget analysts said Friday. Proposed tax cuts for the middle class account for nearly a third of that shortfall.

The 10-year outlook released by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office is somewhat gloomier than White House projections, which found that Obama’s budget request would produce deficits that would add about $8.5 trillion to the national debt by 2020.

A Real Tea Party Worthy Amendment to the Constitution

Some of you may have already seen their op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, but three conservatives in the House, Congressmen Jeb Hensarling (TX), Mike Pence (IN), and John Campbell (CA) introduced a constitutional amendment today to control spending by limiting it to one-fifth of the economy. The Spending Limit Amendment would keep spending as a percentage of GDP at the historical average since World War II, as it is set to more than double in the years ahead. EPA: Regulatory Mess, Economic Massacre

The Environmental Protection Agency announced on December 7, 2009, that greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide emissions, contribute to air pollution that may reasonably be anticipated to “pose a threat to our health and welfare.” If this finding is allowed to become law, the Obama Administration will succeed in gaining greater control over everyday life in America, at a time when small businesses are already struggling.

Jim DeMint (R-S.C.).

AMERICAN RELIANCE ON GOVERNMENT AT ALL-TIME HIGH

Without record levels of welfare, unemployment and other government benefits as well as tax cuts last year, the income of U.S. households would have plunged by an astonishing $723 billion — more than four times the record $167 billion drop reported last month by the Commerce Department, says the Washington Times.

The figures show the devastating results of the massive job losses last year and indicate that the economic recovery that began last summer is tenuous and has a long way to go before many Americans resume life as normal, according to analysts:

Economic Stimulus Package Will Profoundly Impact Education

On February 17, President Barack Obama signed the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (known as the Stimulus). Only three Republican senators voted for the bill. It passed the House without any Republican votes. The bill designates a total of $128.2 billion for education and job training. About $91 billion of that amount goes toward K-12 education, including $53.6 billion in aid for K-12 for states that are in a deficit, $13 billion for schools serving low-income children, and $12 billion for special education. Another $2.1 billion goes toward Head Start and Early Head Start, the federal programs for children from birth to age five.
