WASHINGTON — With much of his legislative agenda stalled in Congress, President Obama and his team are preparing an array of actions using his executive power to advance energy, environmental, fiscal and other domestic policy priorities.
Mr. Obama has not given up hope of progress on Capitol Hill, aides said, and has scheduled a session with Republican leaders on health care later this month. But in the aftermath of a special election in Massachusetts that cost Democrats unilateral control of the Senate, the White House is getting ready to act on its own in the face of partisan gridlock heading into the midterm campaign. Lawmakers in firearm-friendly Texas are embroiled in a debate over how to make the state Capitol safer: get rid of guns or encourage even more.

Democrat campaign rhetoric accusing Republicans of failing to offer any ideas was resoundingly proven false at the House Republican Conference Issues Conference.
There, in an historic televised encounter, President Obama was presented with a series of common sense solutions that would not explode the deficit or raise taxes. Following the President’s acknowledgement of Republican solutions, he, along with Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats, were then held accountable for their failure to work with Republicans, control spending and follow through on campaign promises.
